Context

In printing and labeling lines, elastomer-coated rollers can lose adhesion between the metal core and the coating due to mechanical fatigue, chemical exposure or poor surface preparation.

Problem identified

The elastomer coating was peeling off at the shaft, causing slippage, vibration and loss of efficiency during operation.

Intervention
  • The damaged coating was fully removed and a controlled surface roughening (knurling/etching) was performed on the shaft to optimize bonding for the new material.
  • Degreasing and fine grit blasting were applied before vulcanization.
  • The roller was recoated with a high-performance elastomer (industrial silicone or nitrile, depending on the customer’s process), ensuring an even and durable bond.
Result

Bonding between coating and shaft was significantly improved, eliminating the risk of peeling and restoring traction in continuous operation. The solution extended component life and reduced unplanned maintenance.

Context

The U-cup seal showed uneven wear; there were micro-leaks during stroke and a drop in nominal pressure under load.

Intervention
  • Review of tolerances and surface finish.
  • Recommendation of PU 90 ShA with PTFE backup ring.
  • Custom-made manufacturing to dimension.

Expected result: recovered operating pressure and reduced visible leakage.

Context

Abrasive particles entering the system accelerated internal seal wear; rod scoring and fluid contamination were clearly visible.

Intervention
  • Inspection of wiper/guide and clearances.
  • New NBR 70 ShA wiper with reinforced lip.
  • Custom manufacturing and installation.
  • Cycle test and visual inspection.

Expected result: reduced particle ingress and longer system life.

Pump shaft seal wear

Context

The mechanical seal had a very short service life with frequent leaks into the housing. Misalignment and cavitation were suspected.

Intervention
  • Vibration analysis and laser alignment of the rotating assembly.
  • Review of available NPSH and operating conditions adjustment.
  • Supply of a Carbon/Ceramic - Viton mechanical seal for improved durability.
  • Installation and startup protocol.

Expected result: up to 3x seal life and elimination of leak-related downtime.
